Most skincare brands make claims about the microbiome. We tested ours.
In 2024, we partnered with Sequential Bio — an independent microbiome research lab — to put superSupple Prebiotic Moisturizer through a rigorous, 35-day clinical trial. Our goal was simple: prove that superSupple works with your skin's ecosystem, not against it.
Why we decided to test this
Your skin microbiome is not a buzzword. It's one of the most consequential factors in skin health — and during perimenopause and menopause, it becomes especially vulnerable. Hormonal shifts can disrupt the skin barrier, making the microbiome more susceptible to imbalance, sensitivity, and chronic dryness.

Most skincare products are never tested for their microbiome impact. Brands assume their formulations are safe. We didn't want to assume. If we're asking you to trust that superSupple supports your skin's microbiome, we owe you proof.
How we conducted the study
Partner: Sequential Bio — an independent microbiome research laboratory (not a contracted testing house) Duration: 35 days of daily use Method: In-vivo assessments on human subjects Technology: Quantitative PCR (qPCR) — a gold-standard DNA sequencing method for measuring microbial populations with precision Product tested: superSupple Prebiotic Barrier+ Moisturizer, final commercial formulation
We chose an independent lab deliberately. If superSupple had disrupted the microbiome, we would have reformulated. It didn't.

What we found - after 35 days of daily use:
Microbiome diversity fully maintained — the complete range of beneficial bacterial species remained intact across all subjects.
Microbiome richness preserved — no reduction in the abundance of key microbial populations.
No disruption to the global skin microbiome — zero statistically significant changes to the overall ecosystem composition.
In plain terms: superSupple caused no disruption to the skin's microbial community whatsoever. Your skin's natural ecosystem was fully protected throughout the study.
What this means for your skin
Microbiome disruption is more common than most people realise. Products with harsh actives, synthetic fragrance, the wrong pH, or over-stripping surfactants can tip the microbial balance — triggering increased sensitivity, barrier breakdown, and the kind of reactive skin that becomes harder to calm in midlife.
superSupple was formulated specifically to prevent this. The clinical study confirms what our formulation was built to do: maintain the natural microbial balance that keeps midlife skin resilient, calm, and capable of protecting itself.
This is what microbiome-friendly actually means — not a marketing claim, but independently verified.
About Sequential Bio
Sequential Bio is a specialist microbiome research organisation focused on skin microbiome assessment. Their qPCR technology provides one of the most precise measurements of microbial community composition currently available. Their independence from Pure & Cimple means our results are unbiased.
